Claudia Fine, Chief Professional Officer of eFamilyCare, was recently quoted in the AARP article “Fixing the Caregiving System.” This article explores signs of increasing awareness and the variety of state, local and federal government initiatives being implemented following AARP’s May 2022 report “Real Problems, Real Solutions to the Long-Term Care Crisis.”
Important developments touched on by the article include the introduction of a national caregiving strategy, more paid leave, financial support, paid training for family caregivers, greater outreach, and closing the inequity gap for caregivers. AARP also notes that businesses are recognizing that caregiving benefits are needed.
“We have some employer clients who are starting to get creative in the way they try to support employee caregivers,” says Claudia, quoted in the AARP article. “eFamilyCare connects employee family caregivers with home respite care and provides care advice and referrals to community resources.”
Claudia continues, “eFamilyCare also helps to reduce absenteeism and improve employee retention. Caregiving can create considerable stress on the job and eFamilyCare Advisers help employees learn about options and gain confidence in working with management to create mutually beneficial solutions.”
For example, after helping an employee locate a dementia day program for her mother, an eFamilyCare Adviser coached the caregiver on how to request accommodations from her supervisor that enabled her to balance her work and caregiving responsibilities with less stress. The caregiver had planned to take a leave of absence to care for her mother. eFamilyCare was able to provide a better option that met both the needs of the caregiver and her mother.
